Sad news from Faux Discx today. Super Tennis have announced via their blog that they will cease to be a band after playing a couple of final shows in Belgium. I’m really proud to have had a part in releasing their music, they are some of the nicest guys I have ever known and are awesome musicians to boot. I’ve made synth-duo records with Tom, sat in a private booth at a lap dancing club (not as seedy as it sounds), in Devon, with Bob, and shared long journeys in the back of a transit van with Kev. These guys are the real deal, good people, and their band will be missed. Keep an eye out for their parting record The Quiet Finale that will drop some time soon in digital format. At least the final show they played in the UK was in a cage with lasers, watched by witches. If you’re gonna go out, go out on a high.

Male Bonding’s ‘Beatle Mania’ has increased to such a level now that the last two shows I’ve been in attendance of have disintegrated in to a mess of dancing, crowd surfing, stamped pedals, trashed drum kits, smashed barriers and silent PAs. It’s getting wild.
I’m running low on the split with Cold Pumas here at Faux Discx so don’t hang around and get one now before they end up on eBay described as OOP, RARE, MINT CONDITION etc. Oh yeah, that reminds me that the split is actually an edition of 320, not 300 as I had intended. That’s because there was 20 extra printed, they’re numbered up and over the / 300 edition to 320. Is this the kinda stuff record collectors like? I hope so.
As if blowing my own trumpet over here wasn’t enough I was asked to answer a few questions for Neu (not the band). Go over there if you fancy getting a bit of historical info on Faux Discx.

Cold Pumas have a new 12” coming out in September on the brand-spanking new, Brighton based label Hungry For Power. It’ll feature the tropical albatross; Jela, and the moody, wearing only black; A Tempting Haunt. The flip side has remixes by Brassica and Murlo. The artwork (above) has been crafted by the hands of James Nascent / Hines / Moan and the record has already been buzzed about over on Pitchfork. For more info on the release and pre-orders go here.

Faux Discx has a Youtube channel now. Check out the kinda ancient video for An Emergency’s Avec Pleasure which actually wasn’t on a Faux Discx release. It involves AE (including me) and a bunch of other dudes making complete dicks of themselves.

The Male Bonding / Cold Pumas split is back from the pressing plant and it looks, sounds and even smells AWESOME. I’m pretty stoked at how this came out. All those who have pre-ordered should hopefully get theirs by next week. It’s ‘officially’ out on August 10 and you’ll be able to pick it up from a few select record shops, the bands at their shows and from the Faux Discx webstore. Don’t sleep on this as there are only 300, and half of the Faux Discx stock has gone already. Maybe it’s got something to do with the fact that Male Bonding have just signed to the legendary home of grunge - Sub Pop? Totally amazing news, and it couldn’t have happened to a better bunch of dudes.

I’m pleased to announce the start of Faux Discx’s CMYK split 7” series! The idea is that this will be a series of 7”s that are connected through their asthetic and quality of bands. Each will be limited to only 300 hand-numbered copies and will feature two kindred spirit artists. The cover of each release will be a single picture, the reverse a single element of the colour print process - cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). I’m totally excited about this! More details coming soon…

Welcome to the new website

I had to do it, the last Faux Discx site was like a dead weight hanging around my neck. A dead, stinking carcass that I managed to ignore for a while until the stench got too much and I had to cut it off. What? Oh yeah, this is the new Faux Discx site. Simpler, easier to update and hopefully the start of the rising-from-the-ashes new look Faux Discx. It also has this blog slap bang in the middle so expect plenty of bullshitting, some exciting news stuff (maybe) and info on upcoming releases.

You can check out our associates over there on the left, and check out the releases on the right. What more do you want?

I’ve got some cool stuff lined up for the rest of this year so stay tuned, thanks for sticking with me. Is there anybody there?

Dan x
